This activity, soon to be available on our website, was successfully tested with 4 classes (100 pupils):
- Thursday, October 9: Carnac School (CP–CE1 and CE2).
- Friday, October 10: Crach School (GS–CP and CE1).
Activity outline
Discovering survival strategies: the children first identified the four main tricks used by tidal‑zone animals to survive:
- Hiding (camouflage)
- Holding on tightly (like barnacles)
- Moving quickly (e.g., crabs)
- Storing water (like certain algae)
Field exploration: Off to the tidal zone to observe, touch, and ask questions:
- Which animals or plants live here?
- How do they adapt to their environment? The pupils filled in an observation sheet to record their discoveries.
Creative restitution: To reinforce their learning, each child drew a species they had observed and indicated its adaptation strategy. A fun and creative way to keep a trace of their discoveries!

Summary
A wonderful experience to raise children’s awareness of coastal biodiversity while nurturing their scientific and artistic curiosity.
