As part of the Fête de la Science, Sow my Dream, the educational programme run by Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy, organised science workshops at its centre in Saint-Philibert, Brittany, for six school classes from the Morbihan region. These activities aim to raise awareness among young people about biodiversity and ocean conservation.

Sow my Dream’s hands-on workshops to learn more about the oceans

On the programme:

  • Creating a sensory map: an activity designed to illustrate and help participants better understand the biodiversity around them and the environmental issues at stake.
  • Marine data collection: the pupils used simple protocols to analyse water quality, enabling them to gain an understanding of the work carried out by scientists.
  • Discovering marine energy: through fun hands-on activities, the children learnt how marine energy can be converted into electricity. This workshop was led by Pauline, an activity leader at the Espace des sciences/Maison de la Mer.

These workshops also gave Yoann, skipper of the Sails of Change maxi-trimaran, the opportunity to demonstrate equipment such as the oceanographic sensor and the microplastic sampler, offering the pupils a practical insight into the methods used to study our marine environment, particularly in areas that are difficult to access.

These workshops play a key role in fostering young people’s interest in science and in protecting our planet.
